Barley Exchange

A simple way to turn your barley into a complete feeding program

Instead of selling barley and then separately purchasing finished feed, our Barley Exchange allows your grain to be used directly in an agreed Counterpoint ration. Your barley is included in the ration at zero cost.

We add the balance of ingredients, minerals, nutrition and manufacturing to produce a balanced feed.

The idea is simple

1. You supply barley

Your own barley becomes the major grain ingredient in the agreed feed

2. We formulate the ration

We balance the barley with the ingredients required for the target animal and feeding system.

3. We make the feed

The finished product is manufactured as a balanced ration.

4. You pay the balance

The value of your barley is taken out of the finished feed price, leaving the manufacturing cost and other ingredients to pay.

Why use Barley Exchange?

  • Turn barley you already own into a higher-value, balanced livestock feed.
  • Avoid the double transaction of selling grain first and then buying feed back.

  • Keep the feed program focused on animal performance rather than simply feeding straight grain.

  • Use the same concept for both beef and sheep feeding programs.

  • Know how much barley is being used and how much finished feed it is producing.

→  BALANCED FEED OUT

How Barley Exchange works

1. Agree

Choose your preferred feed, estimate barley tonnage and we will advise how many tonnes of finished feed will be supplied.

2. Supply Barley

Direct from farm, from an agreed storage site, or sold to Counterpoint under a separate purchase/contra arrangement.

3. We manufacture

We add the balance of ingredients and manufacture the agreed finished ration.

4. You receive feed

Finished loads are supplied as required and your barley tonnage will be tracked through the program.

If storage is used

Storage is optional. Where barley goes through a third-party storage site, these are the main cost points to keep in mind:

Stage

Possible cost

What is covers

Into storage

While stored

Out of storage

To manufacture

Storage

Out-turn

Freight + in-turn

Freight if required

Transport to storage and receival of the barley.

The storage provider's charge for holding the grain.

The storage provider's charge when barley is loaded out.

Transport from storage to the Counterpoint manufacturing site.

DIRECT-FROM-FARM OPTION: if harvest timing, transport and manufacturing requirements line up, barley may be supplied directly from farm without going into third-party storage. This can remove storage, in-turn and out-turn charges, although freight may still apply.

Illustrative examples

Beef Performa Custom Finisher Mix

Approx. barley contribution per 24 ton load - 15 tonnes.

1000T of barley can provide 1,580 tonnes of mix which equates to 66 x 24 tonne loads of finished feed.

Sheep Performa Feedlot BE Pellet

Approx. barley contribution per 24 ton load - 16.8 tonnes.

1000T of barley can provide 1,428 tonnes of pellets which equates to 60 x 24 tonne loads of finished feed.

Built for both Sheep and Beef

Beef Performa

Want to sell the barley instead? Ask about a contra deal

A SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE

If you would rather sell your barley than keep ownership of it through the exchange, Counterpoint can discuss purchasing eligible BAR1 or better barley at an agreed price.

The agreed barley value can then be used as a contra or credit against your Counterpoint feed purchases, subject to agreed trading terms.

WHAT THAT MEANS

Sell barley to Counterpoint →

receive agreed value →

apply that value against feed purchases.

What we need from you:

  • Approximate barley tonnage available.

  • Where the barley is located and whether it will come direct from farm or from storage.

  • Confirmation that the barley is BAR1 specification or better, subject to Counterpoint testing and acceptance.

  • Whether you want a barley exchange program or would prefer to discuss a straight sale/contra deal.

  • Your expected Sheep Performa or Beef Performa tonnage feed requirements and timing.
